Pearly Whites by I Position Me's Dottie Goodback
O.K. kids, so you get ready in the morning, and after a GREAT breakfast to kick-start your brain, you brush
your teeth because you want those pearly whites forever. Then, you brush your curly, or straight, brown, blond, black, red
or maybe even blue locks that smells so clean ‘cause you just had a shower (or maybe you had a bath the night before,
or hopefully within the last three days). Then, you straighten your tie in the mirror (o.k. you don’t wear a tie), your
collar or shirt and make sure that you didn’t drop any oatmeal or scrambled eggs on it. You look great! You grab your
books, walk to the car or bus and go to school thinking about what fabulous things you’re going to do today. So, you go about your day, class-to-class, stimulating
those millions of brain cells because you know you’re going to be and do something fantastic one day soon. You get your
heart pumping in Phys. Ed. and on recess, and when you take a restroom break, you wash your hands, do a quick peek in the
mirror at your awesome curly or straight locks and nice shirt that you managed to avoid getting peanut butter on during lunch,
and you’re go to go. You had a great day with
your friends and learned some pretty cool things. You go home after that fun sports practice, do your homework and eat dinner
(not necessarily in that exact order) so you can have some freetime before bed. Following your nighttime snack, you brush
and floss those pearly whites again, wash up, throw your jammies on and pick something out to read yourself to sleep. Wow,
what a day. As you lie in bed, you think about the great things you did. Stop and think a minute. Think about what you did
to prepare yourself for school and what you stopped to care about during the day: your teeth, hair, clothes, washing-up, school-work,
sports, friends, homework, eating… All very important things that you should care about. Tomorrow, just add one more
thing to make it even more perfect: think about your spine – that body part behind you that you never see in the mirror
or really pay any attention to. That body part called the spine is very important to making all of the other things you do
work right and feel great. Just think about it for a few seconds when you walk, sit, eat, study and play. Remember, you should
care for your pearly white spine like you care for your pearly white teeth, because you only have one for life. Here’s
a little rhyme from I Position Me “Backtivity” Book to help. Play sports, be active and warm-up to start It’s great for your spine and
even your heart Sitting for hours is not good for you Your back will ache, so make sure you “do” Dottie Goodback says to treat your
back right Keep your muscles strong and stretch so they’re not tight When you’re playing a fast sport,
don’t worry about fads
Wear shoes, a helmet that fits and all of your pads There are many more things to do to
care for your back But mainly, just take your time and think before you act
